So did you notice? (Invisible references in WinRT apps)

Just a quick note: When you create a new WinRT application for XAML/C# in Visual Studio 11, you will notice that the References folder is empty.

Well don’t fret, it is absolutely normal. Microsoft decided that all the WinRT assemblies are always referenced by default, and thus is doesn’t quite make sense to show them in the Solution Explorer. You will see in this References folder only your own referenced assemblies, third party libraries, etc.

Microsoft is looking for feedback. Is it confusing you? If so, please make sure to tell Microsoft about it (note, I am not totally sure what is the best way to give feedback if you were not at Build, but let me check that out).

Happy Win8 coding,
Laurent

I'm not sure where to put feedback either, but my suggestion would be to have an option to see the references (that could default to 'off'), similar to the existing 'show all files' option for solution explorer.

Agreed Derek, it would be perfect if the references would stay hidden except when you check "show all files", then they would show slightly transparent. Consistency!

Hello,

As pointed ou in my article, there is a comment in the csproj which tells that everything is loaded by default : http://www.jonathanantoine.com/2011/09/14/windows-8-grid-application-when-how-and-when/
